Metformin Suspension

When M. has been suspended, how can one check sugar levels? I cannot obtain blood test strips.

Have you been testing your BG whilst on the Metformin? Has your GP stopped your Metformin for a reason? If you’ve been testing and getting test strips on prescription whilst taking the Metformin I would say you’ve been extremely lucky to have a script for test strips. Most all T2 that are on Metformin or diet only have to self fund testing. I’ve even heard of T2 on hypo inducing meds like Gliclizide having to self fund, myself included when I was on Gliclizide many years ago.

I don’t know if you have a meter and if so what make so I can’t say how much your strips would be for the meter. I’m tagging one of our members @Rachox who has some information on some affordable meters & strips that may be useful to you

I concur with @lovinglife i have never been prescribed testing equipment for type 2 so you’ve been lucky so far, but @GBH if you are interested in buying your own here’s some info with links for UK meters, and to be clear I have no commercial connections with any of the companies mentioned.

If there is a choice of units of measurement then ‘mmol/L’ are the standard units in the UK, ‘mg/dl’ in the US, other countries may vary.
